The guys are just finishing up work on the motocross, so we should be out of here soon. We just stuffed a backpack for our two night stay. We're sharing just about everything but a toothbrush so that we can travel light. We'll ride to the ferry in Mwanza, cross Lake Victoria, and then have about a two hour ride to Nyakaliro.
The goal of this trip is to discuss with the church family their responsibility in supporting Elias as their pastor. Elias is prepared to take a leap of faith and leave Grace Baptist Mission's employ to become the fulltime pastor, but this means the believers in Nyakaliro need to step up to the plate. It is a big move. In order to understand how different the scenario is compared to the States, consider this--the church may consider buying a rice field to help cover compensation. The harvested rice would feed Elias' family, while the surplus could be sold to provide cash (hopefully the deacons at NHBC will not get any bright ideas). We're not talking about dickering over 401k's and professional continuing education. We'll also be building up new believers in the faith. God willing, we'll be back on Friday evening. Blog you then.
It is very exciting to read you daily notes. I am sure the Lord is blessing you with this experience.
