There is an ongoing discussion at Mere Comments on the value of "Christian Movie Reviews" in publications. This has broken out into a larger consideration of our relationship to the world. S.M. Hutchens has a post worth the price of admission on the topic.
Keeping our distance as Hutchens recommends does not permit us to drop our shield or hold our faith and turn our backs - - Especially, when I'm one click away from that for which he would recommend allowing a safe buffer.
As I digested his post, I opened another browser window (due to my multitasker compulsions) to check something else out---YAHOO appeared and I glanced at an ad for a new movie -THE JACKET. I went ahead and viewed the trailer...Like Esolen confessed, I now have more "images I wish I could rub out of my memory."
As my coworkers unknowingly tempt with their "YOU HAVE TO SEE IT" and "IT'S ONE OF THE BEST I'VE EVER SEEN" arrows, I think my duty is to keep my distance but engage the enemy fully aware.
Whether that awareness is enhanced by another believer's review and analysis of a film is something I have pondered since my first exposure to a Christian mag’s review of an R-rated flick.
Jon/ Joel - props for starting the discussion on your sites...
